Swim Start Time Trial Info

This year, both the Olympic and Sprint races will use a self-seeded rolling swim start instead of traditional age-group waves.

Athletes should line up based on where they feel most comfortable and their expected swim ability. Faster athletes are encouraged to start toward the front, while athletes who prefer more space or a more relaxed start can position themselves farther back.

Athletes will start approximately 2 to 3 at a time every few seconds, creating a smoother and more consistent flow throughout the race. This format is designed to encourage fairer and more evenly spaced racing on the bike course by reducing the large groups created by traditional wave starts.

The rolling start also provides a more comfortable option for athletes who may be nervous about beginning the swim surrounded by a large group. Athletes will be staged for the self-seeded rolling swim start immediately following the Mandatory meeting on race morning. There is no assigned starting position and you don’t need to start with others within your category. Simply position yourself where you feel most comfortable and start when you reach the front of the line.
