Volunteer Info

THANK YOU for being a Volunteer at the 2017 Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon! Below you will find important information about what to expect on race day (please read all the way through the bottom of the page). When you arrive on-site, please find our Volunteer Coordinator, TAMMY. She will be at the Volunteer Check-in Tent, which is located near registration in the Boston Teacher’s Union. Tammy will help you check-in, and connect with your coordinator. If you signed up for more than one job, please read through both sets of materials.

KIDS SPLASH & DASH (SWIM AND RUN SUPPORT) – 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday. Specific instructions will be provided when you check in.

PARKING – 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM – Instructions will be given on-site

PACKET PICK-UP – 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM (SATURDAY) – Instructions will be given on-site

PACKET PICK-UP – 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM – Instructions will be given on-site

SWIM SUPPORT – 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM

SAFETY KAYAKER – 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM


RUN COURSE SUPPORT – 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM

TRANSITION AREA SUPPORT – 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM (Shift 1); 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (Shift 2)



INFRASTRUCTURE SET-UP (SATURDAY) – 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (SHIFT 1), 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM (SHIFT 2)  – Instructions will be given on site

INFRASTRUCTURE BREAKDOWN – 11 AM to 2:00 PM – Instructions will be given on site


Parking at Corcoran Jennison – Please use the Mt Vernon Street Entrance. If you are using the T, take the Red Line to JFK, then walk down Columbia Road and then 1/4 of the way around the Traffic Circle to Day Blvd. You will see the Transition Area ahead to the right.

Volunteer Check-in will be next to Athlete Registration in the Boston Teacher’s Union Parking Lot (look for a lot of tents). We ask that you arrive to check-in no later than 15 minutes before the start of your shift. You will receiver your t-shirt and instructions on where to meet your coordinator.

If you finish your assigned duty and are willing to help more, please check back in with our volunteer coordinator TAMMY under the Volunteer Tent near the Transition Area. She will happily reassign you to another position! Also, please keep an eye on things like trash. If you seen overflowing trash/recycling bins, or a mess somewhere, let race management know so that we can address it ASAP. We count on our volunteers to be the eyes and ears around the venue.

Weather in New England is unpredictable, so be sure to pack enough clothing for changing conditions. We will have trash bags / ponchos, but you will probably be more comfortable in your own gear!

Still have questions about volunteering? There will be two opportunities to ask race management.

The first is on a conference call next Thursday, July 27th from 9:30am – 10am (details below). The second is a meeting on Saturday, July 29th from 1pm to 1:30pm at the Boston Teacher’s Union, where registration is taking place.
